Have you heard whispers of results delivering fitness routines that require a few minutes, rather than hours?  We have, but have never known where to find the facts.  Well now we do.  Dr Michael Mosley and Peta Bee’s new Fast Exercise book,  £7.99, presents the (very convincing) case for HIT (High Interval Training) alongside lots of useful fitness tips and tricks for putting it into practice…

The author Dr Mosley says Roger Bannister broke the four-minute mile record doing HIT (he didn’t have much time for training so his workouts were sub 35 minutes).  He also consults Jamie Timmons, professor of systems biology at Loughborough University, who has spent many years researching the benefits HIT in normal people.  He says that just three minutes of HIT a week have been shown to improve the body’s ability to cope with sugar surges (i.e. your metabolic fitness), and how good the heart and lungs are at getting oxygen into the body (your aerobic fitness).

And if that wasn’t enough Allure’s January magazine reports that short bursts of regular exercise helps curb appetite more than one single longer stretch of exercise. Basically you’ll want to eat less. Sold.
