British women don’t think they are good enough, with three quarters admitting they put too much pressure on themselves to be perfect even though they accomplish an average of 26 tasks a day!

Jenni Trent Hughes, behavioural expert and life strategist commented: “When put into context how much Sanctuary Spa found that women accomplish on a daily basis it’s alarming how many women still consistently feel like they need to do more, be more and give more. A significant number of British women today are becoming part of what I believe is the ‘Cult of Never Good Enough’.”

Top 5 pressures for women:

  1. Balancing everything at once
  2. Being interesting
  3. Being intelligent
  4. Having the perfect body
  5. Having the perfect home

Being the perfect wife, mother and employee all also came in the top 10 pressures for women.

Almost three quarters of women revealed that this pressure is completely down to them, a third say it comes from family and friends, and 22% say it’s from what they read in newspapers or magazines.

If you have a piece of equipment that is very important to you chances are you take good care of it because you know that’s how to get the best out of it. Looking at the research it’s clear that women need to apply this logic to themselves and let go every now and again. This could be sitting on a park bench in the sunshine, turning off the mobile and having a long soak or taking a gym class. Whatever suits the individual – sometimes the right action is no action.”  – Jenni Trent Hughes , Expert Life Strategist

Jacqui Burchell Head shotCommenting on the research, our Global Product Director, Jacqueline Burchell:  “Our research gives us an incredible insight into the pressures that the modern British woman feels today. We have identified a rise in the ‘cult of never good enough’ – women who over achieve but under believe. Since the dawn of time, women have been multi-tasking but in the 21st century, we have become overly attached to our busyness; busy and stressed have become inextricably linked with success.”

Our mission to inspire women to know that success and wellbeing lie in stepping back every now and again, appreciating those moments and letting go. It’s important for women to feel they have permission to do this and put themselves first. The message we need to tell ourselves, is how can we help others if we can’t help ourselves?
