January Loves from Little Wood

Well Hello There!1 rotate

Happy New Year!

I hope that you had the most peaceful and restful Christmas and New Year break.

It always occurs to me that January is probably the worst month of all to exercise discipline with ourselves and make lasting resolutions.  These dark, dreary days of late Winter call for home comforts, food heady with rich spices, dancing fires and layers of blankets.  The Danish call it ‘hygge’ – a time of looking after your body and wellbeing in the darkest of days at the beginning of the year.  I’ve resolved to do just that this month, and January for us has been a time for nesting, enjoying our time at home, sharing with friends and planning for the year to come.

This month we have been…

Us and Them

Keeping it local!  It has been a particularly wet month, but we’ve taken advantage of the breaks in the weather to walk our pup as much as possible.  There’s real beauty in discovering places that you had forgotten about, right on your doorstep, and we’ve been spending January doing just that!

The snow visited us fleetingly, but for long enough to remind us how magical a blanket of white makes everything appear.  Work on the gardens at Little Wood is ongoing and never ending, but a dusting of fresh powder covers all the imperfections and makes me realise just how beautiful where we live is!

Me and Him

Inside, we’ve been filling the house with little glimpses of Spring – succulents in jewel colours, hyacinth bulbs and tiny daffodils.  It may still be freezing outside but the sight and scent of the glorious season to come is seeing us through!

Little Me

I’ve been trying to take time to relax properly this month and, in particular, to look after my skin and hair that little bit better.  I was lucky enough to be invited to try out a new local spa and spent a blissful hour away from the busy grind of day to day life.

In this vein, I’ve also been treating myself to some new products and trying to create that ‘spa at home’ feel (the kids’ bubble bath that I normally use just wasn’t cutting it!)  I’ve been loving Sanctuary’s Luxury Bath Float for my evening soak, and am finding that taking time to make an experience of that half an hour each day, is really helping my wellbeing too.

I hope your January has been a lovely one, and that you have a chance to embrace a little of the hygge ethos throughout February too.  See you next month!
